Itinerary

The cliff-lined coast of Liguria stretches from the famed Cinque Terre along the Mediterranean to the French border. Experience the rich history of the Italian Riviera and its connection to renowned artists such as Byron, Shelly and Wagner.

 

After traversing the hills above the Gulf of La Spezia to Manarola, savour the views and wines from the terraced vineyards of a local winery. The flawless white marble of nearby Carrara served as Michelangelo’s raw material.

 

In the city’s still-active quarries and Museum of Marble, trace the exploitation and refinement of marble from the time of the Romans to today.

 

Day 1: FLORENCE

Private Transfer from Florence Airport or Train Station to Hotel in Florence.

Day 2: FLORENCE

Buffet breakfast. Morning guided walking tour of Florence. Visit the splendid Duomo, the Baptistery, Giotto's Bell Tower, Piazza Della Signoria and the Academia Museum, where you will admire the David by Michelangelo. Spend the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 3: FLORENCE - LUCCA - LA SPEZIA

After Breakfast at hotel, departure to Lucca, Italy's finest mediaeval treasure. Enjoy a guided tour of the city centre which is still relatively unspoilt and is sprinkled with palazzi, towers and almost countless splendid churches. Late afternoon transfer to La Spezia. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 4: LA SPEZIA - LUNIGIANA - LA SPEZIA

Buffet breakfast. This morning you will travel to the Lunigiana to visit medieval Castles and Boroughs. The Lunigiana is the region to the extreme north of the Tuscany, situated between Liguria and Emilia Romagna along the course of the river Magra. Late afternoon transfer to La Spezia. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 5: LA SPEZIA - PORTOVENERE - CINQUE TERRE - LA SPEZIA

After Breakfast at hotel, departure by boat to Portovenere where you will visit the Medieval Borough. Then continue to Cinque Terre: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. Late afternoon transfer to La Spezia. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 6: LA SPEZIA - SANTA MARGHERITA - PORTOFINO - LA SPEZIA

Buffet breakfast. Departure to Santa Margherita Ligure and then Portofino. The coast is a sequence of fashionable resorts with their marinas, first-rate sports facilities and the seductive atmosphere of the Dolce Vita. Late afternoon transfer to La Spezia. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 7: LA SPEZIA - CARRARA - FLORENCE

After Breakfast at hotel, departure to Carrara. The art of marble-working has very ancient origins in Carrara. Roman exhibit goes back to third century A.D. Masters like Michelangelo and Donatello were drawn here for the statuary quality marble. Late afternoon transfer to Florence. Dinner and overnight.
